Exploring Transformative Change in Agroecology: Key Takeaways from BioAgora’s Interactive Online Workshop

17 Mar 2025 / Events

On February 21, 2025, the BioAgora Project hosted an interactive online workshop dedicated to accelerating the transition toward agroecological food systems in Europe. As part of BioAgora’s mission to strengthen science-policy-society interfaces, this session brought together researchers, practitioners, and stakeholders to explore how systemic transformation in food and farming is driven through agroecology.

Agroecology holds immense potential to enhance biodiversity, food quality, and ecosystem resilience, yet its widespread adoption remains a challenge. This workshop sought to address this gap by introducing a transformative assessment framework for organisations engaged in agroecology, providing participants with practical tools to evaluate and enhance their impact.

Key Highlights of the Workshop

  • Transformative Assessment Framework – Participants were introduced to an analytical framework designed to assess the transformative potential of agroecological initiatives, helping organisations navigate the complexities of systemic change.
  • Interactive Exercises in a Collaborative Setting – The workshop featured hands-on, interactive activities, encouraging participants to reflect on their own projects, exchange best practices, and co-develop actionable strategies for scaling up agroecological approaches.
  • Bridging Research and Policy – Discussions focused on how scientific knowledge can be effectively translated into policy and practice, ensuring that agroecology is integrated into broader sustainability frameworks.

By fostering mutual learning and knowledge exchange, this workshop contributed to BioAgora’s broader objective of engaging stakeholders in transformative change and the co-creation of sustainable food system solutions. The insights generated will inform future policy recommendations and collaborative efforts within the BioAgora network.

Stay tuned for upcoming BioAgora events and initiatives as we continue to advance the science-policy dialogue for biodiversity and sustainability in European agriculture.
