The 2025 Annual Alternet Conference, themed “Achieving Transformative Change for Biodiversity”, will take place in Aveiro, Portugal, from 13–16 May 2025. Organised by BioAgora partner institution Alternet and hosted by the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies of the University of Aveiro, the event will bring together leading researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders to explore science-based solutions for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration.
The conference will feature keynote speeches from distinguished experts in the fields of biodiversity, climate resilience, and policy, including Ingrid J. Visseren-Hamakers (Radboud University), Vera Helene Hausner (Arctic University of Norway), Alex Franklin (Coventry University), Toke Thomas Høye (Aarhus University), Sebastian Villasante (University of Santiago de Compostela), Alexandra Aragão (University of Coimbra), & Gilles Doignon (European Commission).
In addition to keynote presentations, the four-day programme will include open sessions focused on key aspects of transformative change in biodiversity research, policy, and practice. The conference is now accepting abstracts, oral presentations, posters, and other contributions, with a submission deadline of 28 February 2025.
