Cascade Funding Call Announcement: Co-design of the SPSI Methodological Infrastructure of the Future Science Service for Biodiversity

30 May 2025 / General News

BioAgora announces a new funding call to support the development of a robust methodological infrastructure for the future Science Service for Biodiversity (SSBD).

Key details:

  • Available funding: €165,000 (50% prefinancing after signature of the sub-grant agreement, 50% after acceptance of the final report)

  • Project Duration: Start from 1 December 2025 at the earliest, with completion by 31 December 2026 at the latest

  • Application deadline: 31st August 2025 at 20:00 CEST (Brussels time)

The call is managed by the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) and invites experts to identify a diverse range of methods and approaches at the science-policy-society interface (SPSI) to create an evidence-based framework supporting biodiversity policy. In that sense, proposals should demonstrate strong inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration, bringing together method experts, knowledge holders and actors from across Europe involved in biodiversity policy support. Special attention should be paid to inclusiveness and innovative combinations of methods and tools.

More specifically, proposals are expected to:

  • assess and recommend methods suitable for different types of policy-relevant SPSI processes;

  • create a methodological guide or catalogue for use by the SSBD;

  • develop a Knowledge Exchange Network on Methods;

  • support ongoing urgent request processes during the grant period;

  • provide advice to expert groups, engage with the EC and test methods in real cases;

  • integrate inter- and transdisciplinary approaches and consider the use of AI-based tools.

The call announcement is published on the EU’s Funding & Tender Portal. Applications should only be submitted by the main applicant (coordinator, as applicable) by filling out this online application form and uploading the respective documents.
