In May 2025, the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) of the European Commission published a brochure singling out EU-funded projects dedicated to facilitating transformative change for biodiversity. More than 40 initiatives were featured in the showcase, with BioAgora presented as a cross-cutting endeavour of significance to the European science-policy interface.

By way of background, the document discussed transformative change as a key objective on the road to global biodiversity commitments laid out in agreements such as the UN Convention on Biological Diversity and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Those are complemented by the ambitions of the EU’s own Green Deal and Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, necessitating a substantive push towards tangible results on the ground. Scientific input is considered essential in this context, a conclusion at the heart of the varied multitude of research projects that the brochure sheds light on.

The full list encompasses the following initiatives:

In the case of BioAgora, the output recognised the central role of the project in facilitating dialogues between researchers, other knowledge holders and decision-makers. The Science Service for Biodiversity (SSBD), BioAgora’s core contribution to Europe’s biodiversity science-policy interface, was also refereed to in this showcase as a framework set to address “present gaps and future needs” in this field of interaction.
